Shards of Stillness

from Β£50.00

After the snowfall came the big freeze overnight. While it proved treacherous underfoot in places, it also transformed the landscape into something far more intimate and absorbing. Patches of water, now locked solid, became canvases of ice β€” fractured, layered, and alive with detail.

What might usually be passed without a second glance suddenly demanded attention. Fine cracks, trapped air, and overlapping plates of ice revealed textures and shapes that felt almost geological. Using the 16–55mm, I focus-stacked carefully to ensure complete sharpness throughout, allowing every shard and line to be rendered with clarity.

Composing this image felt like working through a jigsaw puzzle β€” shifting my position, refining the frame, waiting for the shapes to align. Challenging, yes, but deeply enjoyable. A quiet reminder that even in the harshest conditions, winter offers moments of intricate beauty for those willing to slow down and look closer.

A key example of this commitment is his favourite choice of paper: HahnemΓΌhle William Turner.
