There was a time when Dale Abbey felt familiar—paths walked, corners known, scenes revisited. But that sense of knowing was only surface deep. Everything changed the moment I moved here. For the first time, I wasn’t just visiting—I was living within it. Suddenly, what once felt limited opened up into something far richer. A whole landscape, right on my doorstep, waiting quietly to be discovered, explored… and photographed.
It felt like a reset.
Everything I’d captured before now seemed like part of the learning—important, necessary—but leading to this. A new chapter where the ordinary became full of possibility again. Where every walk held potential.
I didn’t have to wait long.
Early spring arrived with perfect timing, bringing dense mist and lingering fog just as the bluebells reached their peak. The woodland transformed. Familiar shapes softened, depth dissolved, and the air carried that stillness you can almost hear. It was the kind of morning that slows you down without asking.
Armed with the Fujifilm 35mm f/2, I had no choice but to think differently. No sweeping compression, no isolating distant details—just me, the scene, and the discipline to compose within it. It forced compromise, but more importantly, it demanded attention.
And that’s where this image came from.
The path draws you in, a quiet leading line cutting through the frame, guiding the eye gently into the mist. Around it, the ferns and bluebells are delicately painted by the soft, diffused light—subtle, almost hesitant, but full of atmosphere. Nothing is shouting for attention, yet everything feels alive.
This wasn’t just another photograph.
It was the moment I realised that everything I’d been looking for… had been here all along.

Phillip recently completed a commercial photography project at Three Acres Inn for A & W Moore Wineracks UK, capturing their bespoke wine storage within a live hospitality setting. The aim was to highlight both the craftsmanship of the wineracks and how naturally they sit within the character of the venue. Using considered light and composition, the images balance clean commercial detail with a strong sense of atmosphere—showcasing the installations as both functional features and visual focal points.
