The higher Phillip climbed within the walls of Tossa de Mar’s old castle, the heavier the atmosphere became. Each level revealed a different view of the Mediterranean, but it was the sky that completely held his attention. What had started as a calm afternoon was quickly turning into something far more dramatic. Thick storm clouds rolled in from the horizon, building layer upon layer until the entire coastline felt surrounded by a cold steel-grey light.

The sea below had fallen strangely quiet.

Using a wide-angle lens, Phillip framed the vastness of the sky against the calm water beneath it. In the distance, almost swallowed by the scale of the approaching storm, a lone sailboat drifted across the shimmering Mediterranean. Tiny against the immense clouds above, it immediately became the heart of the photograph — a small moment of solitude beneath a sky that felt powerful and unpredictable.

Standing amongst the ancient stone walls, watching the weather gather strength around the coastline, Phillip became completely absorbed by the mood of the scene. No golden sunset, no dramatic colours — just tension, atmosphere, and the quiet beauty of a storm slowly arriving.

Printed in Dale Abbey

Every print is personally handled by Phillip from start to finish at his home studio in Dale Abbey. Using the Canon PIXMA PRO-200S, each photograph is carefully printed, checked, and prepared by hand to ensure it meets the highest possible standard before leaving the studio.

Rather than outsourcing production, Phillip believes in remaining closely connected to every stage of the printing process. From selecting the final image and adjusting tones for print, to reviewing detail, texture and overall presentation, every piece is produced with the same level of care and attention that went into capturing the original photograph in the field.

Each print is created in small numbers, allowing time for precision, consistency and quality rather than mass production.

Quality control is an essential part of the process. From colour and contrast to paper finish and detail retention, every print is overseen personally by Phillip to ensure the final piece reflects the atmosphere and emotion of the original scene as faithfully as possible.
