Enchanted Oaks

from £75.00

Enchanted Oaks was captured during the very same mist-covered morning as The Pursuer, deeper within the quiet hidden corners of Dale Abbey.

The fog had settled thick across the woodland, muting the world into soft blues and pale greys, and with every step Phillip took, the landscape seemed to grow more atmospheric. Familiar paths became unrecognisable beneath the mist, whilst the ancient oaks slowly revealed themselves through the haze like something from an old forgotten tale.

This particular group of trees immediately stopped him in his tracks.

The sprawling branches twisted and stretched in every direction, weaving together above the woodland floor almost like a living canopy. Covered in moss and softened by the damp autumn air, the oaks carried a sense of age and character that felt impossible to ignore. The further the mist drifted between them, the more they appeared to fade endlessly into the woodland beyond.

For Phillip, it did not feel like standing within a woodland at all.

It felt enchanted.

The silence of the morning only added to the atmosphere. No voices. No movement. Just the occasional sound of water falling from leaves and the distant call of birds hidden somewhere deeper within the fog. Even the tangled foreground brambles and fading autumn leaves seemed to add to the untamed feeling of the scene, as though nature had been left entirely to reclaim this hidden corner of Dale.

What Phillip loves most about mornings like this is how mist simplifies the landscape whilst simultaneously making it feel more mysterious. The fog strips away distraction and allows shape, texture, and atmosphere to become the focus. Here, the ancient oaks became less like trees and more like guardians of the woodland — silent figures emerging slowly from the mist.

Phillip is especially fond of this photograph because of the feeling it gives him every time he looks at it. The twisting branches, the layered fog, and the ancient woodland atmosphere remind him of something straight out of Lord of the Rings — the kind of place where stories feel as though they could exist just beyond sight amongst the trees. It carries that rare fantasy-like atmosphere whilst still being found within the quiet woodlands of Dale Abbey itself.

A fleeting autumn moment where reality and imagination briefly seemed to blur together beneath the enchanted oaks.

Printed in Dale Abbey

Every print is personally handled by Phillip from start to finish at his home studio in Dale Abbey. Using the Canon PIXMA PRO-200S, each photograph is carefully printed, checked, and prepared by hand to ensure it meets the highest possible standard before leaving the studio.

Rather than outsourcing production, Phillip believes in remaining closely connected to every stage of the printing process. From selecting the final image and adjusting tones for print, to reviewing detail, texture and overall presentation, every piece is produced with the same level of care and attention that went into capturing the original photograph in the field.

Each print is created in small numbers, allowing time for precision, consistency and quality rather than mass production.

Quality Control

Quality control is an essential part of the process. From colour and contrast to paper finish and detail retention, every print is overseen personally by Phillip to ensure the final piece reflects the atmosphere and emotion of the original scene as faithfully as possible.

Landscape photography can often contain subtle transitions in light, deep shadow detail, and delicate colour tones that deserve careful handling when brought into print. Every image is individually reviewed to ensure those quieter details remain present and true to the original vision.

Prints are checked under natural lighting conditions to ensure consistency, depth and accuracy — creating a final piece that feels refined, natural and true to the landscape itself.

Premium Materials

To achieve this, only premium materials are used, including Canon Photo Paper Pro Premium Matte — chosen for its exceptional detail, rich tones, and beautifully subtle texture that perfectly complements Phillip’s landscape photography.

Phillip has always been drawn to the softer, more natural finish that matte paper provides. It removes unnecessary glare and allows the atmosphere, mood and detail within each image to take centre stage. From mist-filled woodlands and soft sunrise light to dramatic weather rolling across the landscape, the paper helps retain a subtle and timeless feel.

The combination of professional inks, carefully calibrated printing and premium matte paper ensures every print is produced with longevity, clarity and richness in mind.
