For Phillip, the later evenings of spring always feel like a small victory.

Longer days, clearer skies, and the promise of golden hour stretching further into the evening create more opportunities to simply head out with the camera and see what unfolds. After the darker months of winter, those warm evenings where the sun lingers low in the sky feel earned. And more often than not, golden hour delivers the kind of light that can transform even the quietest places into something magical.

Recently, Phillip had been spending more time with the Fujifilm 100–400mm, discovering perspectives that previously felt just out of reach. Details, layers, and isolated moments hidden within the landscape were suddenly becoming visible in a completely new way. Familiar locations began to feel fresh again.

Sat quietly at the edge of the water in Locko Park, whilst Indie paddled through the shallows nearby, the evening slowly began to settle. The air was calm, the surface of the water glowing softly beneath the setting sun. Across the far bank, a fallen branch stretched out over the water whilst another hung overhead, naturally framing the scene and immediately catching Phillip’s attention.

Combined with the warm amber light filtering through the trees, the entire landscape seemed to glow like embers at the end of a fire—soft, warm, and fleeting.

It was one of those moments where everything aligned for only a short time. The light, the stillness, the composition, and the quiet company of a familiar walk with Indie. A beautiful finish to an already beautiful evening, captured just before the last of the light disappeared behind the trees.

Printed in Dale Abbey

Every print is personally handled by Phillip from start to finish at his home studio in Dale Abbey. Using the Canon PIXMA PRO-200S, each photograph is carefully printed, checked, and prepared by hand to ensure it meets the highest possible standard before leaving the studio.

Rather than outsourcing production, Phillip believes in remaining closely connected to every stage of the printing process. From selecting the final image and adjusting tones for print, to reviewing detail, texture and overall presentation, every piece is produced with the same level of care and attention that went into capturing the original photograph in the field.

Each print is created in small numbers, allowing time for precision, consistency and quality rather than mass production.

Quality Control

Quality control is an essential part of the process. From colour and contrast to paper finish and detail retention, every print is overseen personally by Phillip to ensure the final piece reflects the atmosphere and emotion of the original scene as faithfully as possible.

Landscape photography can often contain subtle transitions in light, deep shadow detail, and delicate colour tones that deserve careful handling when brought into print. Every image is individually reviewed to ensure those quieter details remain present and true to the original vision.

Prints are checked under natural lighting conditions to ensure consistency, depth and accuracy — creating a final piece that feels refined, natural and true to the landscape itself.
